Shots off target are shot attempts after which the ball did not hit the goal frame. The metric helps to understand how often the team completes attacks with shots, but does not speak about the quality of these chances.
What this metric shows
A large number of shots off target means the team regularly reaches the completion of attacks but lacks accuracy or shoots from difficult positions. Therefore the metric should be considered together with shots on target and xG.
Weight in the intensity metric
In BetLab a shot off target adds 5 points to the team’s intensity. This is twice less than a shot on target, but more than a corner or a dangerous attack.
Setting by periods
The number of shots off target can be set for the whole match, a separate half or the last 5, 10 and 15 minutes. Data for a short period help to notice a change in the team’s attacking activity.
