Corner

A corner is awarded when the ball completely crosses the goal line after a touch by a player of the defending team and a goal was not scored. In analysis corners are used as an indicator of attacking activity and as a separate betting market.

Corners as an activity indicator

A large number of corners may indicate frequent attacks, crosses and blocked shots. However, a corner itself is not yet a scoring chance, so the metric should be evaluated together with shots and other data. In BetLab intensity calculation one corner gives 1 point.

Bets on corners

Bookmakers offer totals and other markets on corners. In BetLab the number of corners can be used in the statistical conditions of an algorithm, as well as setting coefficient ranges for the corresponding markets.

What influences the number of corners

The number of corners is influenced by the teams’ style, wing play, crosses, blocked shots and the course of the match. For example, a losing team may attack more often and receive more corners, but such a pattern does not hold in every game.

Crosses A cross is a pass from the flank in the direction of the opponent’s penalty area or goal. The number of crosses helps to assess how actively the team uses the flanks and aerial balls.
TO/Total/TU Total is a bet on the overall number of certain events in the match: goals, corners, cards or shots. Over means “total over”, Under means “total under”. For example, Over 2.5 wins with three or more goals, and Under 2.5 — with two or fewer.
Intensity Intensity is a metric of the team’s attacking activity in points. In BetLab a shot on target gives 10 points, a shot off target — 5, and a corner and a dangerous attack — 1 point each. The higher the value, the more attacking actions the team performed in the selected period.
