Backtesting

Retroanalysis, or backtesting, is checking an algorithm on an archive of played matches. BetLab applies the specified conditions to historical data and shows which signals the algorithm could have created in the past.

What retroanalysis shows

Number of found signals, wins and losses.
Calculated financial result of the strategy for the selected period.
Results by individual countries, leagues and tournaments.

Why check a strategy on history

Retroanalysis allows a preliminary assessment of an idea without using real bets. It helps to find out whether the algorithm creates enough signals, how its results changed and in which tournaments the conditions worked better or worse.

Limitations of retroanalysis

A good result on past matches does not guarantee a profit in the future. If parameters are repeatedly changed only for the sake of improving historical statistics, the algorithm may adapt to random features of the archive. Therefore after retroanalysis it is advisable to check the strategy on new data without changing the conditions.

ROI ROI shows the efficiency of a strategy — how much profit it generates relative to the total stake amount. Formula: ROI = (Profit / Turnover) × 100%. The metric allows comparison of strategies with different stake sizes and turnover.
Passability Hit rate shows the share of winning signals. For example, if 120 out of 200 settled bets won, the hit rate is 60%. The metric should be evaluated together with the coefficients: a high hit rate does not always mean a profit.
H2H H2H is the head-to-head history of two teams: match dates, results and tournaments. It helps to see whether a certain scenario repeated in their games — for example high scoring, many cards or home advantage.
Algorithm An algorithm is a set of conditions by which BetLab automatically selects matches and creates signals. The system monitors the course of games, checks the specified parameters and saves the results of triggered signals in the statistics.
