Launched in 2017 as part of the Football Association of Thailand's (FAT) overhaul, Division 3 replaced regional amateur leagues. It evolved into Thai League 3 in 2019, streamlining promotion paths. A standout moment was Krabi United's debut playoff run from amateur ranks. The 2020 COVID-19 pandemic disrupted play, but the league bounced back resiliently. Tournament format
The league comprises 72 clubs split into six regional zones of 12 teams each: North, Northeast, East, West, Central, and South. Each zone plays a single round-robin (22 matches per team). Zone winners and top runners-up advance to a 10-team championship playoff group with another single round-robin. Top two earn promotion to Thai League 2; bottom two per zone relegate directly, with others facing playoffs.
