The National Games of Thailand are a premier multi-sport event uniting athletes from the country's 77 provinces across 42 disciplines, with football as a cornerstone. Organized by the National Olympic Committee since 1967, it showcases regional prowess and emerging talents on a national stage.

History and foundation

Launched in Bangkok in 1967 as 'National Sports Competitions', the Games became biennial from 1971. Football has been integral from the start, evolving into a talent pipeline for the national team. The 1985 Chiang Mai edition drew over 50,000 fans per match. In 2023, Bangkok's men's team clinched gold with a 3-1 final win over the Northern region.

Tournament format

Football features men's and women's tournaments in a playoff format with initial group stages. The 77 provincial teams are grouped regionally (4-6 groups). Group winners advance to quarterfinals, semifinals, and the final. Matches span regional stadiums over two weeks.
