The Thai Women's National Championship, or Women's Thai League 1, is the top tier of women's football in Thailand. Featuring elite clubs vying for the title and AFC spots, it has gained momentum since its revamp. Sponsored as futsal women's league since 2021, it promotes 11-a-side play, mirroring the national team's rise in Southeast Asia.

History and foundation

Women's football emerged in Thailand in the 1980s, but the league launched in 2009 as Thai Women's League. Reorganized in 2017 into tiers, it peaked with BG Bandit Queen FC's 2019 triumph and College of Asian Scholars' 2022 dominance. Post-pandemic, it rebounded, boosted by the national team's SEA Games gold in 2022, drawing crowds and scouts.

Tournament format

Comprising 8-10 teams, it follows a double round-robin: home and away matches. The leader claims the championship and AFC entry; top-4 enter playoffs culminating in a final. Running August to May with international breaks, VAR trials began in 2023 for high-stakes games.

Interesting facts
