Established post-1993 independence amid football restructuring, the Fifth League integrated into the Futbolová liga Slovakia framework, feeding into the Fourth Division. A standout story: in 2017, Dubnica nad Váhom from the Fifth League stunned by reaching the regional cup final, toppling higher-division sides. During the 2020 COVID disruptions, shortened seasons led to community-driven mini-tournaments, strengthening local bonds.
Tournament format
Regionally structured into six groups of 12–16 teams, it follows a home-and-away round-robin format—22–30 matches per season. Group winners ascend to the Fourth League, while bottom teams drop to the Sixth or local classes. Running August to June with a winter break, the 2023/24 edition boasted around 90 teams, highlighting its breadth.
