The Fifth League of Slovakia stands as a grassroots tier in the nation's football pyramid, encompassing regional competitions at the amateur and semi-pro level. It features teams from districts like Banská Bystrica, Žilina, Trenčín, and beyond, where local pride fuels the passion for the game. This division acts as a breeding ground for emerging talents and seasoned players eyeing a comeback to higher echelons, embodying the raw essence of Slovak football away from the spotlight.

History and foundation

Established post-1993 independence amid football restructuring, the Fifth League integrated into the Futbolová liga Slovakia framework, feeding into the Fourth Division. It has weathered reorganizations, notably in the 2010s with district mergers. A standout story: in 2017, Dubnica nad Váhom from the Fifth League stunned by reaching the regional cup final, toppling higher-division sides. During the 2020 COVID disruptions, shortened seasons led to community-driven mini-tournaments, strengthening local bonds.

Tournament format

Regionally structured into six groups of 12–16 teams, it follows a home-and-away round-robin format—22–30 matches per season. Group winners ascend to the Fourth League, while bottom teams drop to the Sixth or local classes. Running August to June with a winter break, the 2023/24 edition boasted around 90 teams, highlighting its breadth.
