The Myanmar League Cup is a premier knockout competition organized by the Myanmar Football Federation (MFF). It brings together top clubs from the MNL First Division and lower tiers in a quest for glory. Known for its unpredictability, the tournament often sees underdogs challenge giants, injecting excitement into Myanmar's football landscape.

History and foundation

Launched in 2015 alongside the professional MNL, the League Cup aimed to boost domestic football's appeal. Shan United claimed the inaugural title and dominated early editions. Yangon United broke their streak in 2017, while the 2020 edition fell victim to COVID-19. Hanthawaddy United triumphed upon resumption in 2022. A standout moment: in 2018, second-division Myanmar United reached the semifinals, etching a historic upset.

Tournament format

The format features 16–24 teams in a straight knockout structure: single-leg ties until the final, held on neutral ground like Yangon or Mandalay stadiums. Matches last 90 minutes, with extra time and penalties if needed. Participants include MNL frontrunners and cup winners from inferior leagues.
