Originating in 1932 with the first Maccabiah in Tel Aviv, the modern women's football edition solidified in the 1960s, becoming a staple by 1997 in Mumbai. Key moments include the US team's 5-0 final thrashing in Rio 2009 and Israel's dominance in the 2017 Jerusalem Games. Despite a 2021 pandemic cancellation, it roared back in 2022 in Germany, showcasing resilience amid global challenges.

Tournament format

The structure features a group stage divided into divisions by team strength (elite to amateur), followed by knockout rounds: quarterfinals, semifinals, and final. 12–16 teams compete, with matches at 2x35 or 2x40 minutes.
