The Kosovo Superliga U21 is the top-tier youth football competition in Kosovo for players under 21. It acts as a vital breeding ground for talents transitioning to senior Superliga squads and the national team. Run by the Football Federation of Kosovo (FFK), the annual tournament showcases the technical prowess, pace, and tactical acumen of emerging stars, laying the foundation for Kosovo's football future.

History and foundation

Launched in 2017 following FFK's UEFA and FIFA recognition in 2016, the Superliga U21 kicked off with Trepça from Gjilan as inaugural champions amid high-scoring thrillers. Ballkani from Suhareka dominated in 2019, clinching the title with a 10-point lead. The 2020/21 season was disrupted by COVID-19, but it rebounded with revamped rules. A standout moment: Llapi Podujevë's 2022 cup triumph, edging favorites 3:2 in the final. The league has nurtured stars like Edon Zhegrova (now at Basel), who honed his skills in Drita's U21 setup.

Tournament format

Featuring 10–12 teams mirroring senior Superliga clubs, the format includes a double round-robin regular season (36–44 matches) followed by playoffs: top 6 vie for the title, bottom teams fight relegation. Games occur on senior stadium pitches with a U21 age cap (up to 3 overage players allowed). Winners qualify for UEFA youth cups, drawing European scouts to top performers.
