The Russian Cup for 3rd Division teams in the Southern Federal District and North Caucasus Federal District (YFO-NKFO) is a regional stage of Russia's premier knockout competition, pitting ambitious clubs from Rostov-on-Don, Krasnodar, Stavropol, Makhachkala, and beyond against each other for a shot at higher national rounds. Sanctioned by the RFU, it offers underdog sides a platform to dream big against top-flight giants.

History and foundation

Launched in the regional cup format in the 1990s and integrated into the main Russian Cup since 1992, the YFO-NKFO zone has been a hotbed of surprises. In 2010, SKA Rostov reached the last 16 of the main draw, stunning Krasnodar. Maykop's Druzhba pulled off a penalty shootout thriller against Angušt Nazran in 2018. The 2020 pandemic shortened the edition, but 2022 saw Makhachkala's Rodina leverage cup experience for promotion to FNL-2. Krasnodar's Kuban holds the record with five titles in the 2000s.

Tournament format

The format features a group stage with 16-20 teams split into 4-5 team groups. Group winners and top runners-up advance to the zonal round of 16, followed by single-elimination knockout: quarterfinals, semifinals, and final. Matches are on neutral or home grounds with safety protocols. The season runs August to November, with extra time or penalties for draws.
