The Romanian Women's Liga 3 Championship is the third tier of the national women's football pyramid, bringing together regional teams to foster talent development and grassroots growth. It serves as a competitive arena for clubs aiming to climb the ranks, highlighting the rising interest in women's soccer across Romania.

History and foundation

Introduced in the 2010s amid football reforms, Liga 3 Women faced early challenges with funding but expanded from 8 to 16 teams by 2016. A standout moment was Timisoara's 2019 playoff run, upsetting Bucharest favorites. COVID-19 halted the 2020/21 season, yet recovery saw record crowds over 500. It has nurtured national team stars like midfielder Ana Popescu.

Tournament format

The league splits into Northern and Southern divisions (8-10 teams each), playing 26-30 round-robin matches home and away. Division winners enter a promotion playoff with extra time and penalties for ties. Since 2022, fair play incentives have cut red cards by 20%.
