The Romanian Women's Liga 2 Championship is the second tier of women's football in Romania, featuring regional clubs battling for promotion to the top-flight Liga 1 Femei. It plays a crucial role in nurturing talent and sustaining competitive depth in the nation's growing women's game.

History and foundation

Structured in the 2010s by the Romanian Football Federation (FRF), Liga 2 Women built on informal competitions from the 1990s. A pivotal moment came in 2017 with licensing reforms boosting standards. Notably, the 2020 season ended early due to COVID-19, yet CSA Steaua București earned promotion via tiebreakers, sparking controversy. Match-fixing scandals in 2019 prompted stricter FRF oversight.

Tournament format

Typically 12–16 teams split into Series A and B geographically. Each plays a double round-robin, with series winners entering playoffs for promotion; bottom teams face relegation. Season runs August to June, with a winter break.
