The TNM Super League, Malawi's top-tier football competition, is governed by the Football Association of Malawi (FAM) and features 16 ambitious clubs vying for supremacy. Running from April to November, it captures the nation's passion amid tropical challenges, serving as a launchpad for African continental dreams and showcasing raw talent from across the country.

History and foundation

Established in 1965 as the Blantyre and Districts League, it evolved into a nationwide Super League by 1998. Silver Strikers lead with 11 titles, clinching the latest in 2023. A quirky highlight: the 2010 Kamuzu Stadium clash between Silver and Wanderers drew 30,000 fans. Political turbulence in the 1980s nearly derailed it, but TNM sponsorship revived fortunes. In 2022, VAR trials marked a modern milestone for African leagues.

Tournament format

It's a double round-robin with 30 matches per team. Champions earn CAF Champions League spots, runners-up the Confederation Cup. Relegation battles send bottom teams to playoffs against First Division sides. Three points for wins, one for draws, intertwined with the Standard Bank Cup for added drama.
