The Nepal Regional Cup is a prestigious national tournament featuring top clubs from the country's seven provinces. Organized by the All Nepal Football Association (ANFA), it serves as a vital platform for talent scouting and promoting football in remote areas. The competition highlights regional diversity, with teams from mountainous and lowland zones battling for national glory, captivating fans nationwide.

History and foundation

Launched in 2019 as part of ANFA's decentralization efforts, the inaugural edition was won by Manang Marshyangdi Club from Bagmati Province, who defeated Three Star Club 2:1 in the final. The tournament gained traction post-pandemic through online broadcasts. In 2022, APF Club from Province No. 1 became the first eastern champion, marking a breakthrough for peripheral teams. A notable incident: the 2023 semi-final between Himalayan Sherpa Club and Sankata Club was halted by snowfall in Pokhara, epitomizing Nepali football's battle against nature.

Tournament format

Qualifiers in each of the seven provinces (Koshi, Madhesh, Bagmati, Gandaki, Lumbini, Karnali, Sudurpashchim) select two representatives each, totaling 14 teams. They enter a group stage with two groups of seven. Group winners and the two best runners-up advance to semifinals, followed by a final on neutral ground in Kathmandu. Matches are 90 minutes, with extra time and penalties if needed.
