The Nepal National League Division 1 is the top tier of football in Nepal, featuring clubs from Kathmandu, Pokhara, and beyond. This competition captures the passion of Nepali fans amid the country's rugged terrain, where high-altitude matches test players' limits and create unforgettable drama.

History and foundation

Launched in 2003 by the All Nepal Football Association (ANFA), the league saw Three Star Club dominate early editions. From 2011–2015, it ran as the National League with 14 teams. A hiatus followed the 2015 earthquake and instability, but it relaunched in 2019. Notably, Manang Marshyangdi Club's 2021 triumph broke Kathmandu's stronghold. The earthquake devastated infrastructure, yet football's resilience shone through community rebuilding efforts.

Tournament format

Running September to January to dodge monsoons, it involves 10–14 teams in a double round-robin. The champion claims the title and AFC Challenge League spot; bottom two face relegation to Division 2. Key venues include Dasharath Rangasala Stadium in Kathmandu (15,000 capacity).
