The Kazakhstan Women's Championship is the top tier of women's club football in the country, run by the Kazakhstan Football Federation (KFF). It unites leading teams from across regions, fostering professional women's soccer. The league is pivotal for the national team's growth, supplying talent for global competitions. Recent years have seen momentum with infrastructure investments and youth programs boosting competitiveness and match excitement.

History and foundation

Women's football in Kazakhstan emerged in the late 1980s, but the championship was formally launched in 1995 under KFF. Early seasons featured 6-8 teams in an open format. Semey (formerly SKIF) dominated the 2000s with multiple titles. The 2010s brought reforms: foreigner limits and stadium standards. The 2018/19 season shone when BIIK-Kazygurt from Shymkent clinched the title unbeaten in 15 games. Fun fact: In 2022, Kazakh clubs entered UEFA Women's Champions League; BIIK reached the 1/16 finals, falling to Denmark's Brøndby.

Tournament format

The league uses a double round-robin format with a spring-fall schedule, trialing year-round play lately. 8-10 teams compete home-and-away (28-36 matches total). The points leader wins, with 2nd-4th contesting bronze in a mini-tournament. Bottom two face relegation to First Division. The Kazakhstan Women's Cup adds depth, offering a European spot via the domestic trophy.
