The Israel U19 Championship is the premier national youth football competition for under-19 teams, run by the Israel Football Association (IFA). It acts as a vital breeding ground for emerging talents, scouting promising players for senior clubs and national teams. Featuring reserves from top Israeli sides like Maccabi Tel Aviv, Hapoel Be'er Sheva, and Maccabi Haifa, the league hones skills in technique, pace, and tactical awareness, preparing lads for pro careers.

History and foundation

Launched in the mid-1990s amid IFA's youth development push, the championship began modestly with 8-10 teams. By the 2000s, it grew to 14 clubs. A highlight: Maccabi Tel Aviv U19's invincible 2012 title run. Reforms in the 2010s added playoffs. Stars like Oscar Glouber and Eran Zahavi cut their teeth here before European moves. The 2020 season shortened by COVID rebounded with strict protocols.

Tournament format

The format splits into Premier and National divisions, each with 7 teams. A double round-robin yields 26 matches per side. Top 4 from Premier enter playoffs: semis and final on neutral ground. Promotion/relegation hinges on standings. Runs August to May, winter break included.
