History and foundation

Established in 1991 as Categoría Primera C, the league has undergone reforms, adopting Apertura and Clausura formats in the 2010s like the top flight. Highlights include Llanos' stunning 2019 promotion to Primera A after Clausura triumph. In 2022, Envigado B reached the final with dynamic play. Evolving from regional setups to a national contest with over 20 teams.

Tournament format
