UAE U-23 League Cup
The UAE U-23 League Cup is a vibrant competition showcasing the Emirates' emerging football talents from Pro-League clubs. It bridges youth academies and senior squads, fostering competitive edge and skill development among players under 23.
History and foundation
Launched in 2018 amid UAE's push to revitalize its national team post-Asian youth setbacks, Al Ain U-23 claimed the inaugural title with a 2-1 final win over Al Dhafra. A pandemic hiatus in 2020 led to a resilient comeback. In 2022, Shabab Al Ahli U-23 set a goal-scoring record of 28, drawing European scouts. Since 2023, 12 Pro-League teams compete, prioritizing local prospects.
Tournament format
Features a group stage with three groups of four teams playing single home-hosted matches. Top two per group plus best third-placers advance to quarterfinals. Knockouts follow on neutral venues: quarters, semis, final. Runs September to May alongside the main league; 90-minute games with extra time and penalties if needed.
