The UAE U-21 Cup is a national youth knockout competition organized by the UAE Football Association (UAE FA), featuring U-21 squads from Pro-League and First Division clubs. It plays a crucial role in nurturing emerging talents who often graduate to senior teams and the national squad.

History and foundation

Launched in the early 2010s amid efforts to bolster Emirati football's youth pipeline, the tournament initially involved 16 teams in a straight knockout format. A highlight was Al-Ain's 2018 triumph, stunning Al-Wasl 3-1 in the final, marking a milestone for their academy. Notably, the 2022 edition was scrapped due to COVID-19 but returned with refined rules. Al-Jazira and Shabab Al-Ahli lead with three titles apiece.

Tournament format

It's a pure knockout affair: 16 teams enter at the round of 16, with extra time and penalties if needed. Occasional group stages expand participation. Finals are hosted at neutral venues like Zayed Sports City Stadium, running from October to May alongside the Pro-League calendar.

Interesting facts
