The Reserve League of the Tajikistan Championship serves as a vital platform for youth and reserve squads from the nation's top clubs. Aimed at nurturing emerging talents, it allows young players to gain professional experience away from the spotlight of the Premier League. Overseen by the Football Federation of Tajikistan, it features reserves of powerhouses like Istiklol, Khujand, and Regar-TadAZ, fostering the next generation of stars.

History and foundation

Launched in 2016 to bolster club development amid Tajik football's rise, the league saw Istiklol's reserves dominate the initial three seasons. A highlight was Kuktosh's surprise title in 2019, breaking the streak. The 2021 season was curtailed by COVID-19 to 14 rounds. Reforms in 2022 introduced playoffs. Notable alumni include Shervan Zoyrov, who progressed from reserves to Istiklol's AFC Champions League key player.

Tournament format

The season follows a double round-robin format with 8–10 teams playing home and away. The champion is crowned after the regular season, with playoffs for a league cup option. Matches occur on academy pitches, enforcing youth rules: max 3 over-23 players. Running March to November with a winter break.
