RFEF Primera División Group 2 is one of five regional groups in Spain's third tier, launched in 2021 as part of the football pyramid overhaul. Featuring 20 teams mainly from Valencia, Catalonia, and the Balearics, it pits ambitious sides against each other for promotion to Segunda RFEF or survival in the fourth tier. The 2023/24 season was a thriller, with tight races for playoffs and relegation, averaging over 1,000 fans per match.

History and foundation

Formed post-2021 Tercera División split, Group 2 draws from old Groups V and VI. Fun fact: In 2022, CD Castellón B reached the Copa del Rey reserve final, stunning top clubs. Terrassa FC, founded 1906, made a comeback in 2023/24. Memorable: Valencia B vs. CD Eldense derby with a 93rd-minute winner. Since inception, VAR in playoffs and foreign player caps have modernized it.

Tournament format

Standard double round-robin: 38 matches. Top four to playoffs for Segunda RFEF promotion (two direct, two via ties). Bottom four (17-20) relegated, 15-16 in playoffs. Playoffs are two-legged with golden goal extra time. Weekend fixtures, RFEF TV broadcasts, strict safety rules.
