The Serbian League-West (Srpska Liga Zapad) is one of three zones in Serbia's third-tier football division, featuring clubs from the western regions. It acts as a crucial stepping stone for ambitious sides aiming for promotion to the Serbian First League, nurturing talent in areas like Vojvodina and central Serbia.

History and foundation

Established in 2006 amid the restructuring of Yugoslav and Serbia-Montenegro football, the league saw early dominance by Belgrade-area clubs, later shifting to Vojvodina powerhouses. Memorable moments include Macva Sabac's strong promotion in 2012/13 and IMT Belgrade's upset title win in 2018/19. Notably, the league faced match-fixing scandals in the 2010s, prompting stricter oversight by the Football Association of Serbia (FSS).

Tournament format

The format pits 16 teams in a home-and-away double round-robin, totaling 30 matches per side. Top two teams earn direct promotion to the First League, while 3-4 bottom clubs face relegation to the Second League. Tiebreakers include goal difference and head-to-head records; occasional playoffs involve third-placed teams from zones.

Interesting facts

Average match goals hover at 2.7, with a focus on gritty defenses. All-time top scorer is Milan Djokic of Macva with 28 goals in 2014/15. Standouts include Nemanja Nikolic (ex-Radnicki Nis, later Partizan) and Stevan Stamenkovic of Zemun, known for dazzling dribbles. Current stars like Milan Pavkov (IMT) and prospect Filip Miletic from Surdulica shine brightly.
