Serbian Championship. 1st League U19
The Serbian Championship's First League U19 is a premier youth competition run by the Football Association of Serbia (FSS). It nurtures top talents from club academies like Red Star, Partizan, and Čukarički, bridging the gap to senior football. With 16 teams in the 2023/24 season, it emphasizes technical prowess, tactical awareness, and athleticism, making it a cornerstone of Serbia's youth development pyramid.
History and foundation
Launched in its current form post-2006 FSS independence, the league saw Red Star claim 10 titles and Partizan 7 over 15 years. A highlight was Vojhinina Užice's shock 2018/19 playoff win. Notable alumni include Srđan Babić (ex-Manchester City) and Filip Mladenović. The 2020 pandemic-shortened season still produced stars who debuted in the SuperLiga at 19.
Tournament format
The format features a double round-robin with 16 teams over 30 matches. Top four enter playoffs for the title; bottom teams fight relegation. Played on academy grounds meeting UEFA standards, the season runs August to May with a winter break. Winners qualify for UEFA U19 events.
