The Dutch U21 Championship, often referred to as Eerste Divisie U21 or Tweede Divisie U21, is a cornerstone in nurturing Holland's football prodigies. Launched in the 1990s as part of academy development, it evolved from regional leagues into a national powerhouse. A 2016 overhaul split teams into divisions by strength, boosting rivalry. Tournament format
The season pits 18-20 teams in two groups of 9-10. Round-robin home-and-away within groups, followed by playoffs for top-4 from each. Matches are 90 minutes, with a cap of five over-21 field players. Eredivisie clubs must field at least six U21s. Runs August to May, with a winter break.
