Initiated in 2014 by East African football federations, the inaugural edition in Tanzania saw hosts triumph 3-0 over Uganda in the final. Highlights include Rwanda's 2017 overtime semi-final win against Burundi (2-1) and a 2019 VAR controversy. Tanzania leads with four titles, Uganda has two. Notably, the 2022 edition post-pandemic drew 50,000 to the final.
Tournament format
