The Hungarian Women's Cup is a prestigious national knockout competition organized by the Hungarian Football Federation (MLSZ). It features top teams from the women's NB I and lower divisions, often delivering upsets and showcasing emerging talent in a rapidly growing discipline within Hungarian football.

History and foundation

Launched in the 1980s, the cup gained momentum in the 2000s alongside infrastructure investments. Ferencvárosi TC dominated early editions, winning the inaugural 1990 final. MTK Hungaria's 2015 triumph (2:1 over Ferencváros) broke the streak. Notably, in 2018/19, underdog Diósgyőri VTK reached the semis, stunning favorites. The tournament adapted to COVID-19 disruptions, expanding to 32 teams in 2021 for a record entry.

Tournament format

Single-elimination format with 24-32 teams. Lower-tier sides enter at the round of 32 or 16, elites from round of 16. Ties resolved by extra time and penalties. Finals on neutral venues, often Groupama Aréna. The 2023/24 edition drew 28 clubs with a Budapest draw ceremony.
