The 4th Division (4. Division) stands as a gritty tier in Denmark's football pyramid, featuring 32 ambitious clubs from small towns and suburbs battling for survival and promotion. It's a breeding ground for raw talent eyeing a climb to professional ranks.

History and foundation

Established in 1967 amid Denmark's football restructuring, the league saw reserve sides from giants like Brøndby and AGF shine in the 1970s. The 1990s unearthed gems for clubs like Vejle. A highlight was the 2010/11 season when underdog Holbæk B&I shocked favorites to earn promotion. Post-pandemic, it remains vibrant, with Esbjerg fB II re-entering in 2022 after restructuring.

Tournament format

Running August to June, 32 teams split into Blue and Red groups of 16. Each plays 30 round-robin matches. Top 4 per group enter playoffs: group winners promote directly to 3rd Division, runners-up and thirds contest playoffs. Bottom teams drop to 5th Division, penultimate face relegation playoffs.
