The Czech Women's Second League Championship is a vibrant competition fostering women's football at a regional level. It brings together teams from across the country, serving as a launchpad for young talents and ambitious clubs aiming for promotion to the First League. The season typically kicks off in August and wraps up in May, with weekend fixtures balancing competitive play and training.

History and foundation

The league emerged in the early 2010s amid rising interest in women's soccer. Its inaugural edition in 2012 featured just 8 teams. Over the years, it underwent reforms: expanding to 12 teams in 2018 and introducing playoffs for promotion in 2021. The 2019/20 season, disrupted by the pandemic, saw Slavia Prague B's remarkable ascent to the First League. Notably, it has been a talent factory for the national team, producing stars like Klara Collowa.

Tournament format

The format involves 10–12 teams in a double round-robin: each plays home and away, totaling up to 38 matches. The champion earns direct promotion to the First League; the runner-up enters playoffs against First League sides. The bottom three drop to the regional Second League. Games occur on semi-pro stadiums holding 500–2000 fans.

Interesting facts

Scoring is plentiful, averaging 3.2 goals per match, with derbies often hitting 5–6. Top scorers include Eva Simkova (24 goals in 2022/23 for Banik Ostrava) and Petra Novotna (19 in 2021/22). Standouts: goalkeeper Lenka Gradilova of Sparta B, midfielder Marketa Steinberg (now in First League), and striker Karolina Vojtkova, known for her dribbling flair. The league shines in tactical variety, from Viktoria Zizkov's attacking prowess to Sigma Olomouc's solidity.
