History and foundation
Launched in 1992 post-Yugoslavia breakup as Druga HNL, it hosted regional sides like those from Sisak, Zadar, and Vukovar early on. Reforms in the 2010s included playoffs in 2016 and renaming to Prva NL in 2022 with expansion to 12 teams. Tournament format
A 12-team double round-robin yields 33 matches. Top two promote directly to HNL, third enters playoffs against HNL's 10th. Bottom two drop to the third tier, with summer reshuffles.
