The Bulgarian U-19 Championship is the premier national youth competition where emerging talents from Bulgarian clubs compete for supremacy in the under-19 age group. It acts as a crucial stepping stone to professional football, with scouts from top divisions closely monitoring promising youngsters. The league features teams from First and Second League academies, fostering a highly competitive environment for player development.

History and foundation

Organized by the Bulgarian Football Union (BFU) since the 1990s, the championship has seen dominance by Sofia giants CSKA and Levski, nurturing stars like Dimitar Berbatov, who honed his skills in CSKA's youth setup. A notable reform in 2005 intensified the format. The 2018/19 season was memorable when Ludogorets U-19 clinched the title, upsetting favorites in playoffs and propelling players to senior debuts.

Tournament format

Running from August to May, the season includes a regular stage and playoffs. Around 16 teams play a double round-robin (30 matches), with the top 4 advancing to semifinals and a final on neutral ground. Games occur at academy stadiums with mandatory video review for coaching analysis.
