The Bhutan President's Cup is the premier knockout competition organized by the Bhutan Football Federation (BFF). It pits the nation's top clubs against each other for a trophy named after the head of state, highlighting football's growth in the Himalayan kingdom amid challenging terrain and limited infrastructure.

History and foundation

Launched in 1998 to boost football popularity, the inaugural edition was won by Paro FC, who dominated early tournaments. The 2000s saw increased attention following Bhutan's infamous 1-20 loss to Kuwait in World Cup qualifying. Reforms in 2015 professionalized the event. The 2019 final between Druk Star and Thimphu City (3-2 AET) remains iconic for its drama.

Tournament format

A single-elimination knockout format features 8-12 teams from the A-Division and Premier League. Matches are one-off, with the final occasionally on neutral ground in Thimphu. Held from March to October to avoid monsoons.
