Armenian First League Championship
The Armenian First League Championship is the second tier of Armenian football, featuring ambitious clubs vying for promotion to the Premier League. It plays a crucial role in nurturing young talent and bolstering the nation's football infrastructure, drawing teams from across Armenia.
History and foundation
Established in 1992 following Armenia's independence, the First League navigated early instability with fluctuating formats and participant numbers amid economic challenges. The 2008/09 season saw Ararat Yerevan dominate with a 15-point lead. In the 2010s, Alashkert rose from the league in 2013 to become national champions, while Noah followed suit in 2020. Notably, Pyunik's youth team won in 1995, paving the way for their senior team's future successes.
Tournament format
Running from August to May, the league typically includes 10–12 teams in a double round-robin format, totaling 36–44 matches per team. The champion earns direct promotion to the Premier League, second place contests playoffs against the Premier League's bottom team, while the bottom three or four face relegation to lower divisions.

Known for high-scoring affairs with an average of 3.2–3.5 goals per match, the league delights fans. Top scorer Arthur Mirzoyan netted 28 goals for Shengavit in 2019/20.
