Armenian Women's Championship
The Armenian Women's Championship is the top tier of women's club football in Armenia, run by the Football Federation of Armenia (FFA). History and foundation
Officially started in 2004, with informal tournaments from the late 1990s. Early dominance by Yerevan sides like 'Ararat' and 'Yerevan'. Milestone: In 2010, Pyunik's women qualified for UEFA Champions League prelims—a breakthrough. Around 10 different champions over the years, recently 'Alashkert' and 'Pyunik' on top. COVID-19 shortened the 2020 season, but it rebounded with enhanced protocols.
Tournament format
Round-robin format: teams play home and away, totaling 26 matches per season with 6-8 clubs. Champion by points; since 2022, playoffs for 3rd-4th for European qualification. Semi-pro level, focusing on youth integration.
