The Turkish U19 Championship, known as the PAF League U19, is a cornerstone of youth football development in Turkey. Organized by the Turkish Football Federation (TFF) through the Professional Football Academy (PAF), it features top youth squads from Super Lig and First League clubs. This competition hones skills, tactics, and fitness for emerging stars, offering scouts a live showcase of potential first-team talents.

History and foundation

Launched in 2018 as part of Turkey's youth system overhaul, the PAF U19 League centralized fragmented tournaments under UEFA-aligned standards. A notable event was the 2020 pandemic interruption, resumed with strict protocols testing resilience. Galatasaray dominated with three straight titles (2019–2021), before Fenerbahce claimed 2022 via playoffs. Highlight: Emre Cemal's hat-trick for Besiktas in the 2023 final against Trabzonspor.

Tournament format

Comprising 20 teams in two groups of 10, the regular season sees each play 18 home-and-away matches. Top four from each group advance to playoffs: quarterfinals, semifinals, and a neutral-venue final. Rules cap foreign players at three on the pitch and emphasize fair play. Season runs August to May, with a winter break.

Interesting facts

Average goals per match hover at 3.2, peaking at 3.5 in 2022. Top scorers include Arda Guler (Fenerbahce, 27 goals in 2021/22, now at Real Madrid) and Abdulqadir Ozdemir (Trabzonspor, 22 in 2023/24). Standout players: Salih Ozkan (Besiktas to West Brom), Oğuz Aydın (Galatasaray first-team breakthrough). The league excels in technical midfielders and solid defenders feeding national U19/U21 squads.
