Division 2 Norra Svealand is one of six regional leagues at the third tier of Swedish football. Featuring 14 clubs from central Sweden—Uppland, Stockholm, and Södermanland regions—this competition embodies grassroots passion. Matches unfold on intimate grounds with loyal local crowds, where the battle for promotion to Ettan ignites early. Running April to October amid Nordic weather, it draws scouts eyeing raw talent.

History and foundation

Launched in 2015 amid Swedish football restructuring, splitting Division 2 into geographic groups to cut travel costs. Early dominance came from Uppsala sides: FC Gute claimed titles in 2016 and 2018, while Viggbyholms IK shocked with 2017 promotion. A quirky note: the 2020 pandemic halted play, yet Järfälla IF bounced back strongly. Over the years, 12 teams have ascended, like Skiljebo SK, whose clashes packed 2,000 fans.

Tournament format

Standard double round-robin: 14 teams play 26 matches each—home and away. Top finisher promotes directly to Ettan Södra; runner-up enters playoffs against peers from adjacent groups. Bottom three drop to Division 3, with 11th and 12th facing qualifiers. Points: 3 for wins, 1 for draws; ties broken by goal difference, head-to-head.

Interesting facts

High-scoring affair at this level, averaging 3.2 goals per game, spiking to 4+ in rivalries. Top scorers include Alexander Bodén (IFK Österåker, 28 in 2022) and Mats Eriksson (FC Nacka Iliria, 32-goal record in 2019). Standouts: ex-AIK junior Lukas Adamczyk shone at Upsala IF; scout favorite Valon Musliu (Järfälla) dazzles with pace. A proven talent pipeline to Allsvenskan.
