Established in the early 2000s amid youth football reforms, the league initially saw dominance from Bratislava and Kosice sides. Over time, teams from Nitra and Trencin rose to prominence. The 2018/19 season shone brightly with MFK Ruzomberok U19's 12-game winning streak to claim the title. The 2022 pandemic disrupted play, but resilience prevailed. Notably, midfielder Ladislav Krotovic, now in Serie A, emerged from here.

Tournament format

The competition divides into 4–6 regional groups of 10–12 teams each. Teams play a double round-robin within groups, with top 4–6 advancing to playoffs for the championship. Bottom sides face relegation playoffs. The season runs from August to May, with a winter break.
