Oman Cup
The Oman Cup is Oman's premier knockout football competition, run by the Oman Football Association. It brings together top clubs nationwide, offering a thrilling diversion from league play with high stakes for glory and cash prizes.
History and foundation
Launched in 1972, the cup has evolved from humble beginnings to a cornerstone of Omani football. Al-Orouba dominated the 1990s with multiple wins. The 2015 final saw Fanja edge Sohar in penalties after a 1-1 draw. COVID paused it in 2020, but the 2022 edition celebrated 50 years with packed stadiums and memorable clashes.
Tournament format
It's a straight knockout with 32 teams from Premier League to amateurs. Early rounds are single-leg ties at the lower seed's home, with replays if needed. From the last 16, it's pure playoff on neutral grounds or home advantage. The final graces the Sultan Qaboos Sports Complex in Muscat.
