The Laos Championship Division 2 stands as the second-tier football league in the Kingdom of Laos, fostering regional talent and fueling promotion dreams to the top flight. Featuring clubs from provinces spanning the Mekong plains to northern highlands, it captures the nation's diverse geography. Though infrastructure lags behind regional peers, the league pulses with raw passion, drawing local fans eager for breakout stars amid limited budgets and fervent rivalries.

History and foundation

Established in the early 2000s amid Laos Football Federation reforms to bolster the national pyramid post the top division's monopoly, the league kicked off officially in 2005 with eight teams. A highlight: Savannakhet's 2012 triumph propelled them to the elite, sparking a provincial football boom. The 2018 Mekong floods halted play, yet it rebounded with goal-fests. COVID-19 trimmed schedules, but resilience shone. Now with 10–12 clubs, national TV coverage is growing, marking steady evolution.

Tournament format

Employing a single round-robin format, teams play 9–11 fixtures each. The champion ascends directly to Division 1, while 2nd–4th contest playoffs for another spot. Bottom two face relegation to Division 3. Running October to May to dodge monsoons, games unfold on modest 5,000–15,000-seat provincial venues, emphasizing home advantage and community ties.
