The Kuwait Super Cup is an annual football match kicking off the season in Kuwaiti football. It pits the Kuwaiti Premier League champions against the Emir's Cup winners. Since 2022, the format features the league champions and Prince's Cup holders. This trophy serves as a prestigious opener where teams stake early claims for seasonal dominance.

History and foundation

Launched in 1966 as a clash between league and cup winners, the first edition saw Kuwait SC defeat Salmiya SC. The competition has endured pauses due to wars, reforms, and pandemics, with the latest in 2020–2021. Notably, Qadsia SC dominates with 17 titles, including a three-peat in the 2000s. The 1990 Iraqi invasion halted play, highlighting football's role in national resilience.

Tournament format

Since 2022, it's a single match between Premier League winners and Prince's Cup victors. Previously, it was champions vs. Emir's Cup holders. Held in August on neutral ground, often at Jaber Al-Ahmad International Stadium. If one team wins both, it's finalists or runners-up. Standard 90 minutes, penalties if tied.
