The Fiji U-19 Championship is the premier national football competition for teams under 19 years old, run by the Fiji Football Association (FFA). It acts as a vital breeding ground for young talents in a nation where football vies with rugby for supremacy. Featuring clubs and regional sides, it grooms players for the senior national team and international youth tournaments, emphasizing skill development suited to Fiji's tropical conditions.

History and foundation

Dating back to the 1970s, the tournament formalized in 1985 amid efforts to bolster Fiji's football infrastructure. A highlight was the 2007 OFC U-19 Championship quarterfinal run, stunning New Zealand. Rewa FC's 2015 triumph featured Prem Chandra's hat-trick; he later shone in Australia's A-League. Post-COVID revival in 2022 drew over 5,000 to the final, marking a resurgence.

Tournament format

Eight to ten teams play a round-robin group stage (18–20 matches, home and away), followed by quarterfinals, semifinals, and a single-leg final on neutral ground. Matches are 90 minutes, with VAR in playoffs since 2023. The season spans March to October, avoiding monsoons. Winners earn an OFC U-19 spot and FJD 50,000 prize.
