Originating in the 1960s as a local initiative to promote the sport in the fertile Fergana Valley, it gained prominence during the Soviet era as a republican cup, dominated by teams like Neftchi Fergana and Khujand. A memorable 1985 final saw Fergana defeat Andijan 3-2 in extra time, sparking city-wide celebrations. Revived in 1995 post-Uzbekistan's independence, it integrated into the Professional Football League system. The 2010s saw boosted interest via TV broadcasts, with a 2022 semi-final attendance record of 25,000.
Tournament format
The format features qualifying rounds for 16–24 teams from the regions, followed by a knockout stage: round of 16, quarterfinals, semifinals, and final.
