The DR Congo Championship Super League is the top tier of professional football in the Democratic Republic of Congo, featuring 16 elite clubs battling for supremacy. Amidst the nation's vibrant football culture and logistical hurdles, it runs from August to June, drawing crowds to iconic venues like Stade des Martyrs in Kinshasa.

History and foundation

Established in 1968 as Linafoot, the league traces roots to colonial-era competitions under Belgian rule. Civil wars in the 1990s halted play, but it revived post-2000. Notably, TP Mazembe won the 2010 CAF Champions League, with their midfielder Patrick Mboma earning African Ballon d'Or nods. The 2021 season was scrapped due to COVID-19 and unrest, rebounding with 16 teams in 2023.

Tournament format

Round-robin format: each of 16 teams plays home and away (30 matches total). Champion qualifies for CAF Champions League, runners-up for Confederation Cup. Ties award points; promotion/relegation from First Division via playoffs. Interruptions for international CAF events and national team duties.
