With 12 participating teams, the league delivers fierce competition for the championship title and playoff spots. Renowned for its high energy and passionate local support, QL2 plays a vital role in nurturing Queensland's grassroots football culture.

History and foundation

Established in the 1960s amid Queensland's football boom, the league took its current NPL2 form in the 2010s following Football Queensland reforms. A landmark event was in 2019 when Moreton City Excelsior earned promotion to NPL1, later clinching titles there. Notably, in 2021 amid COVID disruptions, St George Willawong FC dominated with 15 straight wins to claim the crown. The competition has undergone rebrands from Queensland Premier League 2 to FQPL2, mirroring Australia's football evolution. Eastern Suburbs FC holds the record with five titles in the 2010s.
