India. Rajasthan League
The Rajasthan League is a regional second-division football championship within India's league pyramid, overseen by the All India Football Federation (AIFF). It brings together clubs from Rajasthan state, fostering grassroots football in a region traditionally dominated by cricket. The league acts as a vital stepping stone for aspiring teams and young players aiming for I-League or Indian Super League promotion.
History and foundation
Officially launched in 2017 amid AIFF's league restructuring, introducing the I-League 2nd Division structure. Prior to that, state tournaments were sporadic under local associations. A highlight: Rajasthan United FC became the first league side to reach I-League 2nd Division in 2019 and debuted in I-League in 2022. The COVID-19 pandemic halted the 2020/21 season, but it resumed with strict health protocols. Notably, East Bengal Reserves' early dominance drew scouts from Kolkata.
Tournament format
The format features 10–12 teams in a double round-robin: home and away, totaling 18–22 matches per team. Top finisher advances to I-League 3rd Division playoffs or national promotion tournament. Tiebreakers: goal difference, head-to-head. Season runs October to April, with breaks for national duties and Diwali. In 2023, a state cup mini-tournament was added for lower-ranked sides.
