The Odisha League is a professional second-tier football competition in India, centered in the eastern state of Odisha. It brings together top regional clubs aiming to nurture local talent and feed into the top-flight Indian Super League (ISL). The league emphasizes physicality, tactical solidity, and fervent fan support, fostering a style marked by rapid counterattacks and robust defending.

History and foundation

Established in 2017 under the All India Football Federation (AIFF) to decentralize Indian football, the league saw Odisha FC win its inaugural season before ascending to ISL. It weathered a 2020 pandemic restructure but bounced back strongly. Notably, 2022 matches drew over 50,000 fans for key fixtures, and in 2023, former India international Subrata Pal debuted here, elevating the profile. Odisha League has become a breeding ground for the state's young prospects, rivaling field hockey in popularity.

Tournament format

The format features a 12-team regular season with home-and-away round-robin (22 matches), followed by playoffs for the top 4. The champion earns promotion to I-League or a playoff spot. Running from October to May with national team breaks, games are hosted at venues like Kalinga Stadium in Bhubaneswar (15,000 capacity), incorporating VAR for playoffs.
