Launched in the early 2000s to bolster youth development, the league surged in the 2010s. Internacional's 2018 triumph launched Everton Soares to Europe. Gremio's 2020–2022 hat-trick showcased dominance. The 2020 pandemic disrupted but fueled a stronger return. The 2023 Juventude vs. Brasil de Pelotas final went to penalties in epic fashion.

Tournament format

It features a double round-robin group stage with 12–14 teams split into two groups, followed by playoffs: quarterfinals, semis, and a two-legged final. Top clubs like Gremio and Internacional compete alongside underdogs. The season runs January to May, with weekend fixtures.
