The Northeast Cup U20 (Copa do Nordeste Sub-20) is a vibrant regional youth tournament run by the Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF), featuring promising talents from nine Northeastern Brazilian states. It spotlights emerging stars whose flair and skill often propel them to pro careers, drawing scouts from elite clubs. The competition embodies the passionate, technical style of Northeastern soccer.

History and foundation

Launched in 2015 to boost youth development in talent-rich but underdeveloped region, the inaugural edition saw Sport Recife triumph over Vitória on penalties. Bahia U20's 2018 win marked a breakthrough for regional clubs. A quirky halt came in 2020 due to COVID-19, but it roared back in 2021. Over eight editions, Bahia and Pernambuco sides have dominated, producing stars who've lit up Série A.

Tournament format

28 teams from Alagoas, Bahia, Ceará, Maranhão, Paraíba, Pernambuco, Piauí, Rio Grande do Norte, and Sergipe split into two groups of 14 for a single round-robin. Top four per group advance to quarterfinals, semifinals, and a final in knockout format. Around 50 matches ensure high intensity.
