The Tocantinense U20 League is a regional youth football competition for teams from Tocantins state in Brazil. Governed by the Tocantins Football Federation (FFTO), it forms part of Brazil's junior pyramid, scouting and nurturing talents under 20 years old in one of the nation's youngest states.

History and foundation

Tocantins, established in 1988, kicked off its football scene in the 1990s. The U20 league debuted in 2005, becoming a staple event. It paused in 2012 due to funding issues but relaunched stronger in 2015. The 2018 season shone with Gurupi’s 'Canarinho' stunning favorites Palmas in a 3-2 final thriller. 2022 marked a decade of consistency, and 2023 introduced VAR—a novelty for regional youth play.

Tournament format

Featuring 8-10 teams from cities like Palmas, Araguaína, and Gurupi, the format includes a double round-robin group stage followed by playoffs: quarterfinals, semis, and final. Games occur at venues like Estádio Nilton Santos (capacity 4,000). Season runs February to June, with a heat break. Winners advance to the Brazilian U20 Cup.
